Mads Mikkelsen joins starry Scorsese project

Mads Mikkelsen will star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in Martin Scorsese's next film, What Happens at Night. The project is an Apple Original Film produced in partnership with Studiocanal. Patricia Clarkson is also part of the cast.

A dream-like story of adoption

The film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Peter Cameron. It follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby.

Scorsese will direct and produce the film through his Sikelia Productions. The screenplay was written by playwright and screenwriter Patrick Marber.

Scorsese's busy slate with Apple

This marks another major collaboration between Scorsese and Apple following the 2023 epic Killers of the Flower Moon, which starred DiCaprio. That film was nominated for ten Academy Awards.

The director is also working on a documentary about Jesus for the studio. The cast for What Happens at Night features several frequent Scorsese collaborators:
