Sony is closing Bluepoint Games, the developer behind the Demon's Souls remake, in March. The studio's live-service God of War project was canceled last year.

Sony shuts down Bluepoint Games
Sony has closed Bluepoint Games, the PlayStation studio behind the Demon's Souls remake. The shutdown was confirmed by a PlayStation spokesperson to Bloomberg and will take effect in March.
The closure leaves approximately 70 developers without jobs. It follows the studio's pivot to original projects after its acquisition by Sony in 2021.
A studio built on acclaimed remakes
Founded in 2006, Bluepoint Games built its reputation on high-quality remasters and remakes. The Austin-based studio was responsible for the God of War and Metal Gear Solid HD collections.
Its work culminated in full remakes of two iconic games:
- Shadow of the Colossus (2018)
- Demon's Souls (2020)
These projects cemented Bluepoint as a technical powerhouse within the PlayStation ecosystem.
The path to closure
Sony acquired Bluepoint in September 2021. The studio then assisted Sony Santa Monica as a co-developer on God of War: Ragnarok.
Following that, Bluepoint was tasked with developing a new, unannounced multiplayer God of War title. That live-service project was canceled in January 2025.
According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, the studio spent the last year pitching new projects to Sony leadership. The company's recent "business review" ultimately led to the decision to close the studio.
Fans lose hope for a Bloodborne remake
For years, a vocal segment of PlayStation fans hoped Sony would assign Bluepoint to remake Bloodborne, FromSoftware's acclaimed 2015 action-RPG.
With Bluepoint's closure, the likelihood of an official Bloodborne remake has diminished significantly. The studio's technical expertise was seen by many as the perfect fit for such a project.
The shutdown is part of a broader trend of consolidation and project cancellations within Sony's first-party studios as the company reevaluates its live-service strategy.
