Brendan Fraser, Andrew Scott star in D-Day weather drama 'Pressure' on Apple TV+
Summary
A general and a meteorologist must decide whether to launch D-Day despite a dangerous storm, with the fate of WWII at stake.

Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott lead D-Day drama
Apple TV+ has released the first trailer for Pressure, a new World War II drama starring Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott. The film focuses on the critical weather forecasting decisions that determined the fate of the D-Day invasion.
Fraser plays General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Allied Commander. Andrew Scott portrays Captain James Stagg, the chief meteorologist tasked with predicting a narrow window of calm weather for the Normandy landings.
The impossible decision behind D-Day
The film dramatizes the intense 96-hour period before the invasion, codenamed Operation Overlord. Stagg’s team had to analyze conflicting data from American and British forecasters to find a break in the stormy weather.
Eisenhower faced an impossible choice: launch the risky invasion on Stagg’s predicted, brief period of improved conditions or postpone for weeks. A delay would have meant losing the element of surprise and favorable tidal conditions, potentially altering the course of the war.
The real Captain Stagg’s forecast, which Eisenhower ultimately trusted, is credited with being one of the most important weather predictions in history.
An ensemble cast brings history to life
The film features a notable supporting cast. John Slattery plays General Walter Bedell Smith, Eisenhower’s chief of staff. Other key roles include:
- David Krumholtz as physicist and meteorologist Irving Krick
- Michael Fassbender in an undisclosed role
- Alex Jennings and Elliot Levey as senior military officials
The trailer highlights the high-stakes tension between military command and scientific counsel, with Fraser’s Eisenhower demanding certainty where none could exist.
From stage to screen
Pressure is adapted from the stage play by David Haig, who also wrote the screenplay. Haig originated the role of Captain Stagg in the theatrical production.
The film is directed by Academy Award-winner Julian Jarrold (Becoming Jane). It is produced by Alan Moloney and Ruth Coady for Parallel Films, with Haig serving as an executive producer.
Pressure will have a limited theatrical release starting July 19th, 2024, before streaming globally on Apple TV+.
