The first full trailer for the Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man, has been released by Netflix. The movie continues the story from Steven Knight's acclaimed television series.

Cillian Murphy reprises his role as gang leader Tommy Shelby, who is drawn back to Birmingham during World War Two. The film is set for a theatrical release on March 6th, followed by streaming on Netflix on March 20th.

Tommy Shelby faces a new generation

The film is set in 1940, with a graying Tommy Shelby returning from exile. The official synopsis states he must face "his most destructive reckoning yet" with the future of his family and country at stake.

He finds his old territory changed and his family in disarray. His sister Ada, played by Sophie Rundle, informs him that his "gypsy son" is now running the Peaky Blinders gang.

That son is Duke Shelby, a new character portrayed by Barry Keoghan. The trailer shows a tense relationship between the reformed father and his wayward son.

A sprawling new cast joins the fray

The film features several major new additions to the Peaky Blinders universe. The cast includes:

• Rebecca Ferguson as a character who confronts Tommy about his past.
• Tim Roth as an English officer who secretly propositions Duke to commit treason for Germany.
